Trautman Ranch Conservation Area can be accessed by parking at the Carlson Road Trailhead (Discover Pass Required). There are currently some unofficial trails and former ranch roads throughout the property. This 275.8-acre conservation area in the heart of Riverside State Park was acquired in 2015 through Spokane County’s Conservation Futures Program. The property is managed by Riverside State Park through a management agreement recently executed by Spokane County and the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission.
The Trautman Property contains a series of benches and slopes that exhibit where the Spokane River once flowed. The forest is generally a mix of Ponderosa pine and Douglas fir. The property also provides some views as well as numerous springs and ponds.
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission along with Riverside State Park and Spokane County Parks staff will be working with area residents and stakeholders to develop a trail plan for the Trautman Ranch. Stay tuned for upcoming public participation opportunities!
